Heb. 3:15 As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
It is so easy for our hearts to be hardened to God. Even though He created us, has given us everything we need and loves us unconditionally, we still allow ourselves to become cold to Him. The prophet in the verse that was quoted spoke about the rebellion. A hard heart leads to indifference of action. In other words, when we allow our hearts to be closed off, then we don’t care who we hurt. Spouses who have affairs have often left the marriage with their hearts long before. Our faith is very much the same.
For me, this happens slowly over time, and it’s normally because I’ve not spent enough time with Him. When I ask God why He’s so distant from me, His response will always be “It’s not me, it’s you.” I often find myself doing and saying things that go against what I know God’s will is, and for awhile I allow myself to not care. This is a dangerous and slippery slope for a follower of Jesus. We begin to not care about the things He cares about, and the world around us misses out on His love working through us.
What are some signs that your heart is hardening? What do you do about it?
